Solar Links

Conventional energy sources such as oil, coal, natural gas, and nuclear power - have associated problems of air and water pollution, resource depletion, and the greenhouse effect, all of which are becoming increasingly unacceptable and unaffordable. We are now at a crossroad at the beginning of this 21st century where photovoltaics (PV) - the direct conversion of sunlight into electricity - can meet the rapidly growing demand for electricity with virtually no environmental consequences. This will be realized when individual citizens choose to become producers of clean energy, local governments take the challenge to facilitate those choices, and the solar electric industry matures in the same way the computer industry did in the mid 80's. Reducing the cost of solar electric systems and raising their efficiencies will broaden the market share and revolutionize the way we use energy.

View looking east towards Saddleback.   One day it will look odd that all of those rooftops in the background have no solar capability.   This is a grid connected, net-metering system and receives a $11,100 rebate through the California Energy Commission and a $2,750 state tax refund.

Detail of the BP/Solarex SX120 panel.   A shame this opalescent beauty can only be appreciated up close.   The system generates over 10 kWh / day near equinox. chart

Twenty one of the 25 panels installed on the SW roof having a 30 degree pitch.   Producing and consuming green energy is one positive solution to a growing energy dilema.   This system will annually defer over 6,000 pounds of CO2 and other emissions from the California environment.
